The Gram
The gram is a light metric unit of mass equal to the mass of a cubic centimeter of water, or one milliliter of water or one thousandth of a kilogram of water.
Focus on the right side of the photo of the scale. Sitting on the scale’s platform is a cubic decimeter and projecting from the cube is a cubic centimeter. If that cubic centimeter were water, its mass would be one gram.
Focus on the left of the scale. That is a picture of a bee hummingbird. It is one of the smallest warm blooded animals in the world, about 7cm from beak to tail and it weighs about one and one half grams as an adult. Isn’t that amazing!
