Polygons
Ready to meet the shapes?
Let's talk about Polygons! Think of a polygon like a super flat pancake, (but not a circle pancake)—it has length and width, but absolutely no "depth" or "height".In the math world, we call this 2D.
To be a true polygon, a shape has to follow two simple rules:
Stay Straight: It’s made of straight lines only (no curves allowed!).
No Gaps: All the lines must connect to close the shape.
You need at least three lines to make this happen—that’s why the triangle is the starter shape of the polygon family!
Quick Check:
Flat? Check!
Straight lines? Check! (Geometry pros call these "segments."). In geometry, a segment (often called a line segment) is a straight path that connects two points and has a definite beginning and end.
The Cubee Challenge:
Take a look at Cubee "D"! There are three polygons hanging out right on its face. Can you spot them and figure out their names? How many line segments are there and what is their total length?
